Fatah is a happily married family man who lives in a small village in Algeria. His greatest wealth is his cow Jacqueline. He dreams of entering her in a contest in Paris – and he actually gets an invitation. So Fatah sets out on a journey from his home via Marseille to Paris, which of course is not without its stumbling blocks: In Marseille, Fatah meets his brother-in-law Hassan, who is supposed to show him the way to the French capital. However, Hassan is not at all pleased with Fatah's surprise visit because he sees his secret – having a family with a French woman – as being in danger. So the unwanted guest continues his journey alone, meets the friendly nobleman Philippe and soon has trouble with his wife Naïma, who stayed at home, because photos of kisses taken while drunk accidentally end up in his homeland. Was the trip a mistake?
