Desire Will Set You Free

The young American writer Ezra falls in love with the Russian hustler Sasha and introduces him to the hedonistic Berlin queer and underground scene. Through Ezra, Sasha learns about his sexual orientation, and in small steps he approaches his perceived gender affiliation. In the end, Ezra must accept that while he was the catalyst for Sasha's coming out, he does not return his love. The feature-length film explores current discourses on sexual and gender identity in a critical yet humorous way. Berlin was and is currently an epicenter in Europe for avant-garde art and unconventional lifestyles, which are portrayed vividly in this film.
