The Ghent red-light district is in turmoil when prostitute Eva Meskens is attacked with a knife and seriously injured. The attacker has carved St Peter's crosses into her cheeks. Is this the work of a psychopath or a religious fanatic? Chief investigator of the vice squad Hannah Maes begins her investigation by questioning Eva's last client Walter Van Praet, but he has a rock-solid alibi. Meanwhile, Eva regains consciousness and accuses Remco, a very aggressive pimp who had demanded forty percent of her earnings a few weeks earlier. Then the perpetrator strikes again and leaves his signature on the next victim.
