Tim Vlaeminck, who has a learning disability, attacks the chief investigator of the vice squad Hannah Maes in the recycling centre. From then on, he is considered by Hannah's co-workers Charles and Bob to be the prime suspect in the case of the abused prostitute attacked by an unknown who carved religious symbols into her cheeks. Tim Vlaeminck's religious father also comes under suspicion until finally another assault takes place. Meanwhile, Hannah is making progress in her private investigation into her mother's death, which leads her to the cemetery in Campo Santo.
